Easy Goulash Recipe
INGREDIENTS
- 2kg (4.40 lbs) beef suitable for Goulash (beef chuck)
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons sweet paprika
- 100ml (3/4 glass) full-bodied red wine (like Lagrein, Merlot, etc.) - I didn't use wine.
- 1.5 l (6 cups) demi-glace or beef broth
- Salt and pepper
- 3 bay leaves
- For the seasoning blend:
- 1 tablespoon marjoram
- Zest of 1 lemon
- 1 tablespoon whole cumin
- 1 garlic clove
PROCEDURE
Cut the beef into roughly 4cm (1.6 inch) pieces. Sauté in a hot skillet until it has a nice crust. Season with salt and pepper, then set aside.
In a pot, sauté the onions. Add the tomato paste and the browned beef. If using wine, pour it in and let it evaporate. Then, add the paprika. Finally, add the demi-glace or beef broth and adjust seasoning with salt.
When the beef is cooked through, stir in the seasoning blend. Turn off the heat and enjoy!
This dish can be served with polenta, mashed potatoes, dumplings, etc. I personally served it with crostini!
