Star Bread
INGREDIENTS
- For the dough:
- 250g warm milk (approx. 1 cup)
- 1 tbsp sour cream
- 1 pinch of salt
- 30g sugar (approx. 2 tbsp)
- 10g yeast (approx. 1 tsp)
- 1 egg
- 100ml vegetable oil (approx. 6 3/4 tbsp)
- 450-500g flour (adjust between 3 3/4 to 4 cups as needed)
- For the filling:
- 200g ricotta cheese (7 oz)
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 20g cornstarch (approx. 1 1/2 tbsp)
- 100g raisins (approx. 7 tbsp)
- For garnishing:
- 100g butter (approx. 1/2 cup)
- 1 tbsp flour
- 1 tbsp sugar
PROCEDURE
In a bowl, mix the warm milk, salt, sour cream, sugar, and yeast. Stir well. Then add the egg and vegetable oil and mix again.
At this point, add the flour and let it rise until it doubles in size.
Prepare the filling by combining the ricotta cheese, raisins, sugar, and cornstarch. Once the dough has risen, cut it into smaller pieces and shape them into balls. Roll each ball out into a circle, then fold one side over, and add the filling to the two edges. Now fold the dough over to cover the filling and seal both sides. Continue this process, shaping each piece into a ring with an empty ball in the center.
Let it rise again, and then brush the entire surface with beaten egg.
On top, crumble a mixture of 100g butter, 1 tablespoon of flour, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 25 minutes.
